Contact information

The airfield is hosted by the Aviation Club of Turku. Phone number of the Oripää hangar is +358 2 7661266 and Turku hangar +358 2 2714963. Airfield chief is Paavo Mäkimattila (050) 553 9033.

Location

Oripää airfield is located approximately 50 kilometres to northeast from Turku. The nearest population centre Oripää is located about two kilometres away from the airfield. In the centre of Oripää you can find bank, few groceries, DIJ store, restaurant, steak house, pharmacy, health centre and couple of petrol stations.

It takes about 20 minutes by motor plane from EFTU (Turku) to EFOP. By car about 40 minutes from Turku, 1h 15min from Tampere and two hours from Helsinki.

Access by road

From south (Turku)

From Turku centre take road E63 (Tampere). After the motorway the road changes to a broad lane road and when it ends there is a junction to left (No. 41 - Huittinen). Take this road and drive it for about 25 kilometres.

You're getting close when you see a petrol station (Shell) on the right hand side of the road. Do not turn right on this junction but the next (Road no 210 - Hirvikoski). Drive the road 210 for about 3 kilometres and you'll find a (small) black signpost on the left side of the road saying "Lentokenttä" and meaning "airfield" in english. Turn there and drive about 300 metres and you'll be here!

From north (Huittinen)

The road 41 from north leads to Oripää. After passing the emergency landing spot (widened road) there are no more than 10 kilometres to the airfield. Take the road 210 (Hirvikoski) to left before the center of Oripää (If you see a petrol station (Shell) on the left of the road you've missed the junction). Drive road the 210 for about 3 kilometres and you'll find a (small) black signpost on the left side of the road saying "Lentokenttä" and meaning "airfield" in english. Turn there and drive about 300 metres and you'll be here!

Activities & regulations

Turku club's activities at Oripää include motor flying, gliding, motor gliding and RC-gliding. Flying is done in Oripää almost all year round (heavy snowing might cause closing of the airfield). The main flying season is however from April to October when the most of gliding operations are done.

The airfield is also used by hang-gliding club of Turku and few other independent devotees of aviation.

Please pay attention on the other aviation activities when arriving to EFOP and please avoid overflying the airfield.

There are four hangars at the airfield from which the semicircular light green hangar is used by our club. There is an asphalt apron in the front of this hangar where we ask our visitors to anchor their airplanes (taxing from runway 14/32).

Facilities

A big club house has been built in 1997 and it is used mainly of our members, but anyhow it's also available for our guests. The club house is equipped with living room, briefing room, kitchen, shower (with sauna of course) and few beds. After a long flight it's more than recommended to refresh yourself in finnish sauna. There is also a swimming pool close to the smaller sauna. After the sun has gone down people gather around campfire to do some barbecue.

Accommodation is possible in our six huts for a reasonable price. Camping is possible on the area and for caravanners we can offer limited electricity possibilities.

Note: The airfield is on private grounds and therefore you need a permission for camping or overnight stays. Please ask for more information when needed!
